Boston Cambridge Festivals and Events
Boston offers much more than historical attractions, acclaimed restaurants, and premier shopping. Boston also offers an impressive social calendar packed with special events and fun festivals. Celebrations begin in January with the annual Boston Wine Festival, followed in February by the famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Boston Marathon brings tens of thousands of runners to Boston Cambridge in April, while the Scooper Bowl children’s ice cream social, Boston Globe Jazz Festival, Chowderfest, Fourth of July concert and fireworks show, and holiday season celebrations round out the year.
The most famous event in Boston Cambridge is the world-renowned Boston Marathon. This April event, usually held on the Massachusetts state holiday Patriot’s Day, is the oldest annual marathon on the planet. Running strong since 1897, the Boston Marathon today attracts an estimated 20,000 competitors. Runners must qualify to participate in the Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon is also an exciting event for spectators. Crowds of roughly 500,000 are common along the 26.22-mile race course.
